Certainly one of the most famous museums in the world, the Louvre houses an Egyptian collection rivaled by few others. Jean-Francois Champollion (who, in the 19th century, deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphs) began work on the Louvre's collection during the early 1800s. In 1827 he and King Charles X unveiled this thematic treasure which follows the 4000-year evolution of the world's greatest civilization.
