3. The Pizza Expo Sandtennial

The first Pizza Expo Sandtennial took place at the Las Vegas Convention center and featured some of the best sand sculptures in the country. Those invited to compete in the masters competition work on a joint 20-ton group carving to kick off the event. Once finished, competitors split to attack their own 10 tons of sand over the course of 15 hours. With first prize coming in at $3,000, the rewards are great and the crowd gets the benefit of attending a competition indoors where there's no chance of Mother Nature raining on the sculpture parade.
