8. The World of Coca-Cola
Location: Atlanta, Ga.
What's Cool: The Spectacular Soda Fountain never misses with a specially poured Coca-Cola.
------------------------------------
In 1886, Dr. John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Ga., introduced a new beverage to a local soda fountain, and so began the soft drink legacy that is carried on today at the World of Coca-Cola. See where it all began at this multi-million dollar center that showcases the largest collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia and 40 years worth of advertisements that made this fizzy drink popular worldwide.
The "Tastes of the World" exhibit is a soda jerk's dream, featuring a sampling room with dozens of obscure flavors from around the world as well as the original formula. Upon visiting, the old advertising slogan "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" begs the question: Which flavor? Guests have dozens of choices to choose from, including exotic international brands such as Fanta Peach and a watermelon-flavored soda, which are sure to surprise the taste buds of the average American.
The highlight of the tour is the Spectacular Soda Fountain. Unlike most ordinary self-service fountains you find at fast food restaurants, this one is a blast. As bubbly stuff churns overhead in clear tubes, guests step up to the bull's-eye and wait … in a few seconds cola is shot 20 feet into your glass. It sure does hit the spot!
