6. U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition

Billed as the largest competition in the country, the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition features sculptures from both professional and amateur teams competing for more than $21,000 in prize money. The competition is the centerpiece of a three-day extravaganza that includes a casual-dress ball on Friday, fireworks on Saturday and food and craft vendors on Seacoast Drive both weekend days. For the kids, there's the Kids 'N' Kastles Competition for ages 12 and under.
