Whisky A Go-Go
1. Whisky A Go-Go
Location: West Hollywood, California
Famous Bands to Grace the Stage: The Doors, Buffalo Springfield
-----------------------------------------
Everyone has played the Whisky A Go-Go. From its prominent position on the Sunset Strip, the Whisky has seen many changes since it opened in 1964. Gaining recognition with successful lounge acts like Johnny Rivers, it soon became a Mecca of hard rock and the epitome of California rock and roll. That mixture of glitz, show biz and grimy chord progressions made everyone from the Doors to Led Zeppelin to Janis Joplin a hit at this club. The original Go-Go Girls were invented here, too. You know them: girls suspended in cages above the dance floor wearing white boots, writhing and jerking their arms. That may be the greatest legacy bequeathed to us by the Whisky.
