A parade float commemorates the Stonewall riots, which erupted after a 1969 police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar on New York City's Christopher Street. The riots launched the gay-rights movement, and gave birth to the annual march that now includes 170 floats, thousands of marchers, supporters and spectators.
