Coachella Valley Music & Art Festival

The three-day festival known as the Coachella Valley Music & Art Festival is held for two weekends in April in Indio, California. Past performances have featured Madonna, Paul McCartney, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phoenix and Arcade Fire, to name a few.

Pitchfork Music Festival

A Chicago summer staple, the Pitchfork Music Festival brought its music to Paris in 2011. The two-day festival took place in La Grande Halle de la Villette with more than 20 bands and DJs providing the entertainment. This year's festival takes place in its usual location, Union Park in Chicago.

Cape Town International Jazz Festival

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival has grown exponentially since its launch in 2000. The festival brings over 40 international and local artists together, making it "Africa's Grandest Gathering."

Festival Internacional de Benicassim

The Festival Internacional de Benicassim, better known as FIB, is a four-day long festival in Benicassim, a small Spanish beach town located between Valencia and Barcelona. Ranging from electro, pop, indie and rock, the music starts at night and goes on through the morning.

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

The four-day festival features a wide variety of acts and occurs each year in Manchester, Tennessee. Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z have all performed in the past.

Austin City Limits Music Festival

Each year, 70,000 people come to Austin, Texas, for this three-day festival that now takes place over two weekends in October. ACL features over 130 different acts from all over the world. Shown here, Flosstradamus performs on the Miller Lite stage at Zilker Park.

Glastonbury Festival

2015 marked the 45th anniversary of what has become the largest music festival in Europe. Glastonbury is held on Worthy Farm in Somerset during June. Coldplay, the Who, Neil Young, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder have all performed here.

Lollapalooza

Head to Chicago's historic Grant Park for a three-day, ultimate jam session featuring artists from a variety of genres, including alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock and hip-hop. Lollapalooza usually takes place in late summer.

New Orleans Jazz & Hertiage Festival

Jazz Fest is held in New Orleans in the end of April/beginning of May each year. In addition to local performers, past performers have included James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Tony Bennett and Dave Matthews Band.

Roskilde Festival

The Roskilde Festival is a non-profit organization that throws the largest Northern European music and arts festival every summer. It takes place over eight days in Denmark. Each year's festival focuses on a new social issue. Proceeds from the festival benefit children and young people as well as humanitarian efforts and cultural work.

Sasquatch! Music Festival

Sasquatch! Music Festival usually takes place over Memorial Day weekend in George, Washington and features indie rock, alternative, hip hop, EDM and comedy performances. In the past, Modest Mouse, Jack White, Kings of Leon and the Avett Brothers performed at the Gorge Amphitheatre.

Splendour in the Grass

Held in Woodford, Australia in July, Splendour in the Grass features artists from a range of genres, including alternative, electronic, hip hop, and folk. The festival also has workshops, art installations, craft areas, speakers and a kids' zone.

Summerfest

In 1999, the Guinness Book of World Records certified the festival as the world's largest. The 11-day festival features 700 bands and starts the last Thursday in June. Pop, rock, R&B and country artists perform across 11 stages at Summerfest's location along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

South by Southwest

Held each March, the four-day festival attracts over 2,000 performers who play in more than 90 venues in downtown Austin, Texas. SXSW also features keynote speakers from tech and creative industries, as well as interactive, film and music exhibitions.

Primavera Sound Festival

This European music festival takes place in Barcelona, Spain and Oporto, Portugal at the end of May and beginning of June every year. Primavera Sound attracts well-known acts from around the world as well as up-and-coming European artists. The White Stripes, Lou Reed, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Pixies have all performed here in the past.
