America's Manliest Beaches
All across America, the male species has turned several notable beaches into their personal playgrounds, training grounds and -- we're jealous -- home base. From the world-famous Muscle Beach in Venice Beach, CA, to the surfing hot spot of North Shore on Hawaii’s Oahu Island, these beaches are known to turn boys into men, and men into … well, permanent beach lovers.
1. Daytona Beach
No wonder Daytona is home to a number of hit movies with racing themes like Days of Thunder. After spending time with hot wheels, guys head over to the beaches. The Halifax area and Ponce Inlet are the best spots for stand-up paddle boarding and, at night, a number of fire pits along the beaches make for great bonfires.
2. Manhattan Beach
It’s also one of the most expensive cities to live in on the California Coast -- homes average $25 million here, nothing a major leaguer can't handle! And, ladies, you might get lucky. While locals refer to men in Manhattan Beach as having "Peter Pan Syndrome," that also means there's an overwhelming number of single, affluent men here.
3. North Shore
North Shore is known to be the surfing mecca of the world, home to world-renowned surfing competitions, and for having a true surfer mentality where men make surfing their top priority. Guys shack up at Turtle Bay Resort, the international headquarters for stand-up paddle boarding (which has become a big trend in North Shore). The resort is also home to Surfer, the Bar, where members of the surf community congregate.
4. Venice Beach
It's where celebrities like Kirk Douglas and Jack LaLanne trained for bodybuilding; today, the public can still watch musclemen pump iron all afternoon. For only $10 a day, anyone can use the facilities and train in the footsteps of legendary musclemen like Arnold Schwarzenegger, who “felt the burn” here.
5. Coronado Beach
Sailors can usually be seen training along the shoreline just in front of the iconic Hotel del Coronado, jogging along the shore, swimming in the Pacific and often in the waters of Glorietta Bay. Everyone loves a good sailor story so catch them in action at and popular watering holes like McP's Irish Pub, where they hang out at night.
