Marcus Sakey is an award-winning author, Xbox addict, photography buff and damn funny guy. He recently joined the Travel Channel family as host of the upcoming show Hidden City. In the show, Marcus travels to cities throughout America to take a closer look at the crimes and criminals behind them.

Just as Marcus gets into the minds of the criminals he investigates, we wanted to give you a chance to get inside his head. So we present … 10 Things to Know About Marcus Sakey (in his own words).

1) Where he lives?

2) Where he's from?
I was born in Flint, MI, and grew up in the suburbs of Detroit.

3) His alma mater?
The University of Michigan, '92–'96, double major in communication and poli sci. I also did about a year at Columbia College Chicago working on an MFA in creative writing; I’m sort of a poster-boy over there.

4) His hobbies?
Reading, cooking, construction -- I moved recently, and am rebuilding my house one room at a time -- hiking, climbing, sailing.

5) Guilty pleasures?
Lounging in the hammock watching Battlestar Galactica.

6) Best recent gift?
For my birthday my wife bought me a beer fridge. I still smile every time I open it. And I can’t tell you how many of my buddies are jealous over it.

7)  Car he drives?
A beat-to-sh*t Honda Civic. I’m not a car guy. They exist to take you from place to place, not to represent your identity.

8) Boy Scout?
For about 2 weeks.

9) Charities or philanthropies?
Quite a few, actually. They break down into environmental, veteran’s support, and education. I’m on the advisory board of a group called Spark --  it’s a fantastic program that pairs smart 13-year-olds from under-served communities with mentors in their dream jobs. I’d love to do something with them on the show, and I know they’d be delighted as well.

10) Host any annual events at your home? Signature dish?
I’m pretty famous for my chili, and, if I may so, with good reason. Also, I’m half-Syrian, and for years now every Thanksgiving my family does this huge Arabic feast instead of a lame-ass turkey. Kibbe and yabra and kousa and labneh and hummus and baba ganoush. I’m salivating just thinking about it.
