Episode: Miami

Anthony Bourdain spends 48 hours in the sun-soaked city of Miami. We picked a selection of Tony’s best tips from The Layover: Miami episode -- be sure to check them out before your next trip.

Arrivals and Departures
“Flying into Miami, you have 2 options -- Miami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The quickest way into the city is via taxi for $32. You’ll be at the beach in less than 30 minutes. On a budget? Try Super Shuttle for $19.”

“When leaving Miami, use curb check. Avoid the line for a few extra dollars. Total check-in time? 2 minutes.Cost? $5. To do otherwise would be madness.”

Miami Neighborhoods
“Miami is not all South Beach. Don’t miss Miami Beach, Downtown Miami, Wynwood, Design District, Little Haiti and Little Havana, both of which show how Miami is the most Latin American of cities -- home to several Cubans, South Americans and Caribbean immigrants.”

Best Place to Eat
“Probably the best restaurant in Miami right now -- Michael’s Genuine. Homemade, fresh and local ingredients. You must try the crispy pig ears and deviled eggs.”

Getting Around Miami
“Walk or bike. There is a public transportation system that will get you around the city with a $2 easy pass.”

Food Truck Scene
“Don’t leave Miami without checking out their vibrant and growing food truck scene at Tropical Park in South Miami for every kind of mobile, edible and deliciousness -- from cubano burgers to Asian-inspired wings to tatter tots and beyond.”

Bar Hopping
“One of the last dive bars in South Beach -- Mac’s Club Deuce.”

Bet on the Older Guy
If you’re going to Miami Jai-Alai, play it safe – “vote for the older guy. Jai-alai was brought to Miami from Cuba in the 1920s and it’s still popular with the Cuban community.”

Miami’s Art Scene
“Venture over to Coral Gables to see a picture book of Coral Gables then and now. See homes and plazas built mostly during the 1920s when developers had an idea of creating Miami’s own Venice. Take a hard look at South Beach’s Art Deco madness on Ocean Avenue, straight out of Grand Theft Auto. Lastly, check out the regenerating Wynwood District with lots of galleries and street art.”

For a Great View
There is only Collins Avenue. During the day, it’s a scene of hot bodies and sunbathers. “At night, it can get mad.” Proceed with caution.
