About the Show
Almost thirty years ago Howie Thies made a bet that took him high into the Hoodoo Mountains and straight back down on a rope tied to a snow machine. Today that bar bet has transformed into a week-long spring break and racing event known as Arctic Man. Follow event creator Howie Thies and his son John as they prep the Alaskan wilderness for the 15,000 vacationers coming to take their spring break and the 57 racers coming to take part in the extreme 5.5 mile downhill race known as the Ski and Sno Go Classic. Arctic weather, scary injuries and spring break antics keep the pressure mounting as Howie Thies tries to wrangle the most extreme athletes with the most extreme fans. With the annual theme, 'Go Fast or Go Home,' once the race ends the real party begins; turning the middle of nowhere into the place to be with booze, babes and a fully loaded bar. Come morning the crowd dissipates and returns the Hoodoo Mountains into pristine wilderness. This unique event has grown to be one of the major winter events held within the state of Alaska.
