Season 0, Episode 2

Bizarre Foods: Memorable Moments

Join Andrew as he relives some of the most memorable moments from the first season. Some are worth repeating, while others he'd just as soon forget. He'll also share his top culinary choices, and revisit those he just couldn't stomach.First up, Andrew explores some of the foods he calls "beyond bizarre." He begins in Morocco eating lamb eyeball at the market, then moves on to the Philippines for balut, a fertilized duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside. But not all of Andrew's experiences involve food, like his visit to a Shaman in Ecuador where he survived being sprayed with alcohol spit, a guinea pig fur rub-down, and a furious beating with a poisonous plant! Ouch!Next, Andrew gets to share some of the foods he first thought were bizarre, but turned out to be some of the tastiest treats he's ever had! His favorites include "bake and shark" in Trinidad and Tobago, guinea pig in Ecuador, and ox heart in London. Now for something that makes almost everyone squirm - creepy crawlers. Andrew's certainly had his share of worms, slugs, larvae and grubs. Some of the more memorable ones include mangrove worms in the Philippines, coconut grubs in Ecuador, and tarantulas in New York. And let's not forget the slithering snake he had in Vietnam! Some things Andrew finds to be just plain bizarre and often leave him wondering why anyone would eat it! Take stinkheads in Alaska for example- fish heads buried and left to rot for weeks until dug up and eaten. How about dama mein noodles in Taiwan- raw pork aged for a few weeks in rice at room temperature. And let's not forget the search for armadillo in Mexico where the hunt was even more dramatic then the food itself! Andrew may be an adventurous eater, but on occasion he runs into something he just can't stomach. Those "it beat me" foods include stinky tofu in Taiwan, khli in Morocco, and durian fruit in Asia and New York. You've got to give him credit for trying! Finally, wrapping up his memorable moments are some of the favorite out-takes from season one. And of course a final reminder, if it looks good, eat it!
