Zak, Nick and Aaron walk out of a wooded area in Bannack, MT, with cameras in hand. In 1862, a group of prospectors uncovered a massive gold strike in Bannack, but as often was the case, the gold brought out the worst in people.

In 1890, this brick building was purchased by Dr. John Christian Meade for $1,250. He remodeled and turned the building into a plush hotel.

Zak stops in front of the town’s schoolhouse. Despite the violence, the town was home to hundreds of children.

Located on Grasshopper Creek, Bannack was named after the local Bannock Native Americans.

A winding staircase in Hotel Meade, which operated off and on until the 1940s, reopening each time mining activity in the area revived.

Despite being more than 150 years old, many of the buildings in Bannack are still well preserved.

This furnace can be found inside the Hotel Meade, where each July, re-enactors bring the hotel’s boom days back to life.
