Do's and Don’ts for Traveling With Pets: The Hotel Fixer Shares His Tips

                                            TRAVELING WITH PET DO’S:

• Follow the hotel pet policy.

• Cage your pet. Your pet loves you and knows you, but he/she may not consider the hotel staff as his/her family yet.

• Clean up after your pet if he/she misses the bowl. Then let the hotel staff know so they can do a deep clean.

• Tip the bellmen five dollars for every ten minutes he walks your animal.

• Be considerate of others when you take your pet onto the elevator. Some people are very afraid of animals – even Fluffy.

• Many housekeepers will refuse to clean your room if your pet is left alone, even in a cage. Better to take Fluffy for a walk during cleaning or ensure you coordinate with housekeeping supervisor.

• Let the hotel staff know your pet’s likes. They make accommodations for your tastes and may be able to also accommodate your pet’s tastes as well.

• Remember: Your next-door hotel room neighbor doesn't like your pet after midnight. Make sure your pet wears a watch.

                                            TRAVELING WITH PET DON’TS:

• Don’t bring more than one pet. If you do, expect to be charged a double cleaning fee.

• Don’t leave your pet in the room when you leave unless he/she is caged. If someone opens the door, the animal can escape.

• Don’t forget your pet when you check out. The hotel does not have a “lost and found” for pets. Don't laugh. I had someone forget their parrot once.

• Don’t ask another hotel guest to watch your pet, and then blame the hotel if the pet runs away.
