Renovating The Curve Hotel

Collecting Vintage Furniture and Artifacts
Palm Springs is a veritable museum of Mid Century Modern architecture and design, and the city itself is unavoidably defined by the colors, shapes and style of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Which totally blows my skirt up. I love it. Knowing The Curve needed to reflect that local history and style, I shopped like crazy at local vintage stores for furniture and accessories. When looking for authentic artifacts from any period, keep in mind a few things: inventory is never constant, so when you find a good shop, visit often, especially if you're looking for something specific. Also, pay attention to workmanship. Test drawers to be sure they slide easily, and check all wood-frame pieces for sturdiness. Lastly, don't be afraid to take risks. Vintage items should be used to create a look that reflects your own unique, personal style. Go crazy.
Choosing Paint Colors
Choosing paint colors for multiple rooms - especially rooms that are open to each other - can be daunting. The best place to start is with the function of the rooms. Are they active rooms? Or places to relax? Warm colors are best in rooms that need energy, and cooler colors encourage calm. Next, consider if you want the rooms to feel smaller and cozy or large and airy. Stick to lighter colors for a more open feel, and go darker if you want a more intimate environment. If you can pick one color that works, the easiest way to define two rooms near each other is to use two tones of the same color. One dark, one light. You're guaranteed they'll look beautiful together.

About the Author

Casey Noble became known to a national audience when she first appeared on HGTV's Design Star season 5 in the summer of 2010, but by then she was already a seasoned professional. For almost a decade, Casey had been developing her style, philosophy and approach as an interior designer.

In 2011, when HGTV moved to reinvent one of its most recognizable brands, Design on a Dime, Casey was called upon to give a fresh new look to an old favorite, and went on to infuse an editorial level of design style into the world of affordable, do it yourself (DIY) design.
