Today, the paranormal world mourns the loss of Lorraine Warren, legendary investigator, author, lecturer and trailblazer in the field of supernatural and psychic phenomena.

Warren and husband Ed investigated thousands of cases throughout their career (and were among the first investigators involved in the controversial Amityville case), founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in the 1950s and ran their own Occult Museum, a one-of-a-kind collection of haunted artifacts, including the famous Annabelle haunted doll.

Last night my grandmother, Lorraine Warren, quietly and peacefully left us to join her beloved Ed. She was happy and laughing until the very end. She was my angel and my hero, and she will be deeply missed. Please join us in celebrating her life and honoring her beautiful soul. Remember to treasure those you love while you can. Thank you and God bless you all.

The N.E.S.P.R., the Warren’s groundbreaking society, is still in operation today and confirmed the announcement shortly after, also on Facebook.

While Ed and Lorraine Warren’s work has inspired more than a dozen movies, the investigator/demonologist duo rose to further fame with The Conjuring movies. The blockbuster movie series has been based on the couple’s historic cases and featured them (portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively).

Fans and admirers from all over the world are paying tribute to the late pioneer, including our own Katrina Weidman, who wrote:

Remembering the great Lorraine Warren today as we learn of her passing. I had the honor to work, and become friends, with Lorraine. As a young woman entering the paranormal field I learned a lot from her. Regardless if you agree with her work or not, Ed and Lorraine helped open the doors for every single investigator...
