Tiger’s Nest

Paro Valley, Bhutan

Legend states that in the eighth century, Guru Rinpoche rode a tigress to this cliffside to subdue a local demon. Now, Taktshang Goemba, or Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is sanctified as one of Bhutan’s most sacred religious sites. Because it is perched on the side of a cliff 2,600 feet above Paro Valley and 9,678 feet above sea level, getting to Tiger’s Nest is a test of devotion on its own. Once inside, guests can explore the 9 sacred caves, as well as a number of temples.
