Wylie Gelber is the bassist for Dawes, a self-described “American rock ‘n’ roll band” from Los Angeles that is currently touring with Mumford & Sons as part of the Gentlemen of the Road tour. The bands are stopping to play in small, historic cities across the country. On Saturday, August 4, 2012, the tour took over Portland, Maine.

I stayed at: The Hampton Inn & Suites in Portland, Maine.

When it comes to packing: The "rolling technique" will always be your best bet.

The best thing I ate was: Too much lobster.

I wish I hadn't: Just told anyone reading this about how epic Portland is, so it could be my secret ...

Don't miss: The boat.

Next time I will definitely: Bring one piece of waterproof anything.

My favorite part of the trip was: Trying to convince myself I could captain a fishing boat.

My advice would be:
Sell your house ...
Buy a boat ...
Go to Portland Maine ...
And the rest will figure itself out.
