Millions of years ago, the great limestone cliffs of Great Ocean Road were battered by the Southern Ocean. Eventually, the constant assault formed rock stacks left standing high from shore. Affectionately known as the “12 Apostles,” the 140-foot-tall pillars change colors with the sun setting, transforming from shades of dark purple to hazy gold. Located 170 miles west from Melbourne, Australia, the drive here takes you past the magnificent vertical cliff of the Gibson Steps and the stunning show of waves crashing against the Loch Ard Gorge.
